Welcome to part 3 of my "Sonic SatAm" review. Tails is such a ridiculously underutilized character in that show. He almost never gets to be useful. He didn’t get believed about the Sally robot when I thought he’d get to be useful that way at least. He only shows up to be read a bedtime story like he’s a stupid little kid who can’t do anything.

At least it’s sweet seeing Sally give Tails kisses, acting like his mother. And hey, at least Tails has a GOOD voice for once in the franchise’s history of TV shows (Tails's voice wasn't really that great in "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog," though I think that he sounded fine in "Sonic Boom" and definitely in "Sonic SatAm"). Speaking of that, the acting is great in this show, it’s just a few weird voices that sucks. But Tails barely ever even flies, you’d think his flight would constantly be coming in handy! He was planned to be much more useful in Season 3, but the series was cancelled thanks to Disney requiring only their shows on ABC. He was only competent at basically the finale, where it’s revealed out of nowhere that Sally taught him how to hack a power plant so that it wrecks itself.

Apparently Sally's a Gadgeteer Genius in this continuity. She even made a rough translator for the terrapod rhinos, though I do love that it was realistic by taking forever to work even adequately, unlike in "Sonic Colors." But still, apparently she’s such a programming whiz that she can even explode a generator just by typing in its computer. That should be Rotor doing that, but instead Rotor’s so out of focus and useless. I’d like to imagine Rotor to have made ray guns and bombs for all his friends and given them to them so they’d be destroying robots constantly throughout the show, but instead not even Sonic can defeat Swatbots that he easily trashes in the comic, and Rotor feels like a useless goofball as a result. Like the time he made a quill sharpener for Sonic and even that screwed up, giving him a terrible mohawk.

I mean, I’m all for alternate character interpretations in an alternate universe. So this zone’s Sally is a gadgeteer. Good, she’s more competent! The problem is that it feels like a lazy, inadequate, and tacked-on attempt to make her more useful and put her in the spotlight more because she was very popular back then. The reason I say this is because she looks exactly the same as the normal Sally Acorn.

If you want to make Sally a gadgeteer, then that's fine, but give her a lab coat instead of her normal vest! Give her glasses, make her say she has an IQ of 200, regularly show her working on inventions with Rotor and imply that she’s being taught by him! Have her talk in techno babble occasionally! Don’t just make her like normal Sally but not! Most of the time, the only technology stuff she does is when she uses NICOLE.

And NICOLE is so boring in this show. There’s a reason I’m only referring to her as an acronym. She has no personality, she’s just a boring AI handheld computer who talks like a mindless robot slave for Sally. Aside from when she started using Sonic’s slang and talking more relatably because Sonic wanted her to speak plain English, which only happened in season 2 and I did love that, even if her trying to talk in Sonic slang wasn’t her and just sounded awkward, so I understood Sally pointing it out by asking Sonic, ”what have you done to her?” Fortunately, Sally SMILED while saying that to Sonic rather than being rude, and NICOLE should’ve always been with Sonic, not Sally, because they have such a better dynamic, as in they actually HAVE a dynamic.

I do like that Sally’s less of a jerk in season 2, they tone down her character after that. But still, she comes off as a failed tsundere (that means a girl who first comes off as cold and tough but over time becomes soft and sweet), because she’s too unlikable with her rudeness to Sonic to be endearing. And I’ll always hate when she and the others worry about Sonic like they have no faith in him at all, it’s so genre-blind and such filler. It feels like this is a show where almost none of the characters are likable. I have problems with every character in this show and that’s always a big deal because these characters are ALWAYS there. I hate Robotnik, Snively, Antoine, and Sally when she's near Sonic most of the time.

The closest there are to good characters are the blandest ones who happen to be Bunnie, Rotor, and Tails. I'll talk about why I think so in part 4 of this review next time, so take care, and I'll see you all then:)
